FORGIVENESS WRITTEN BY ROBBIE JO.

Three years ago, a friend said something to me that hurt very deeply. I was speechless. I could not believe she could say that and mean it. When I had no response, she said, "I love you and don't want to see you hurt." My thought was, 'if you love me, how could you say such a terrible thing about someone I love dearly'. But I was still speechless and just couldn't respond. Days and weeks passed and it still bothered me. I prayed about it a lot and I thought I had forgiven her, but I couldn't forget. Weeks and months went by. I didn't dwell on this, but occasionally after my prayers at bedtime, I would tlhink about it and couldn't seem to clear this from my thoughts. Therefore, I would have a restless night. Two years passed and I began to doubt that I had forgiven her. I decided I would talk to her about it and tell her how much her words had hurt. Before I could talk to her, I wanted to think about what I would say that wouldn't hurt her. (I'm not really sure she would even remember what she had said to me.) I prayed about this and asked God to give me the right words to say. After four days of praying about this, I began thinking God wasn't listening to me. Then suddenly it became clear. God had heard and had answered my prayers. The answer was to say NOTHING. JUST FORGIVE. I did -- and a sense of peace came to me. I have had no more restless nights over this. We all do and say things at time that hurt someone. We need forgiveness and we need to be able to forgive. Let us all pray for those who hurt us and ask God to give us the Grace to forgive them. Forgiving them gives us relief from our hurt. When we can truly forgive, it allows healing to take place in our spiritual lives.
God knows He has to forgive us a lot.

*******************************************************************************************

POPE FRANCIS ON CORPUS CHRISTI: In the Eucharist, we remember God's love.  For the observance of the feast of Corpus Christi on Sunday, Pope Francis said the Eucharist helps us to remember everything that Christ has done for us, in particular his great love for us.  Corpus Christi reminds us that in the midst of our lives the Lord comes to meet us “with a loving 'fragility,' which is the Eucharist,” the Pope said.  “In the Bread of Life, the Lord comes to us, making himself a humble meal that lovingly heals our memory, wounded by life’s frantic pace of life. The Eucharist is the memorial of God’s love.” The word of God says to each one of us: “Remember!” Pope Francis proclaimed.  In this way we can be strengthened, just as the memory of the Lord’s deeds guided and strengthened God’s people when they were in the desert. Remembering everything that the Lord has done for us is the foundation of our own “personal history of salvation,” he said.  “Remembrance is essential for faith, as water is for a plant. A plant without water cannot stay alive and bear fruit. Nor can faith, unless it drinks deeply of the memory of all that the Lord has done for us.” “Memory is important,” he went on, “because it allows us to dwell in love, to be mindful, never forgetting who it is who loves us and whom we are called to love in return.”  But today, our memories are weakened by our constant activity and business, the Pope pointed out.  Our lives are such a whirl of people and events that we no longer retain memories. But this leaves us at risk of only living on the surface of things and never going deeper, he said, “without the broader vision that reminds us who we are and where we are going.”  “This is why the Eucharistic commemoration does us so much good: it is not an abstract, cold and superficial memory, but a living remembrance that comforts us with God’s love.”  Pope Francis explained that when we receive the Eucharist, our hearts have the opportunity to become overwhelmed with the certainty of Christ's love for us, the Eucharist giving us a memory that is grateful, free, and patient.  It’s a grateful memory, he said, because it reminds us that we are children of the Father, who loves and nourishes us. And it gives us a patient memory, because even in the midst of trial we know that Christ remains in us.  It’s free memory, because Christ's love and forgiveness can heal the wounds in our past, freeing us from the remembrance of past wrongs.  Additionally, he said how the Eucharist encourages us – that “even on the roughest road, we are not alone; the Lord does not forget us and whenever we turn to him, he restores us with his love.”  The Pope concluded by drawing on St. Paul’s words in the day’s first reading, which says: “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.”  Thus, the Eucharist also reminds us that we are all one body; it isn’t a sacrament just “for me.” It is for many, all the faithful, he said, who together form one body. “The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity,” he stated.  “Now, in experiencing this Eucharist, let us adore and thank the Lord for this greatest of gifts: the living memorial of his love, that makes us one body and leads us to unity.” –  By Hannah Brockhaus Catholic News Agency

UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO MASS? The church offers a service called Mass Link.  At 6pm Sunday Mass, via Skype, we call people who want to listen to the Mass and broadcast the Mass to them over their phones. This service is available for anyone who can't make it to Mass if you are ill or housebound.  If you would like this service, please give your number to the Parish Office and we will ring you every Sunday at 6pm to listen in!

THREE REASONS TO CELEBRATE THE TRINITY.  1)  God is love. We know love when we experience it, when it shows itself. Love is not just a lot of talk, not a lot of hot air. Love is an action. So what does God’s love look like? God Jesus heals the sick, Jesus feeds the hungry, Jesus pays attention to the outcasts, Jesus loves the poor. He is not cowed by the powerful. He chooses lowly fishermen to be his friends and followers and empowers them to do what they never knew they could do.  2)  God is everywhere.  In two millennium of Christian art, you get plenty of images of Jesus and some of God the Father (think of the old bearded guy on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel). But artists have struggled to show the Holy Spirit.  They might take a cue from Scripture and illustrate a descending dove because when Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit came on Him “like a dove.” Or they might show flames of fire because when the disciples received the gift of the Spirit, “tongues as of fire” appeared over them.  But notice these are all similes, expressions with “like” or “as” to show what is indescribable. You can’t pin God down. God is everywhere and the Spirit is everywhere. Like the wind–to resort to another simile–it can’t be seen, but its work is always evident.  3)  God is always present.  It’s easy enough to think God is around at our happy moments, our celebrations, but the concept of the Trinity shows us that God is also present when we suffer the most.  I’ve heard people object to the Crucifixion by saying, “What kind of Father would put His Son through such torture?” It seems to me they’re missing the point. God was on the cross with His Son. God suffered with Him. God is there with us in our miseries.  At the end of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus gives his disciples their marching orders, saying, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...”  There it is, God in all three persons. God beside us, before us, around us, with us, in heaven and on earth and anyplace we happen to go.  By Rick Hamlin.

PRAYER TO THE MOST HOLY TRINITY.

Glory be to the Father, Who created me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son,

Who through his Passion and Cross, triumphed over hell and showed me the way to heaven.

Glory be to the Holy Spirit,

Who cleansed me of my original sin at Baptism and blesses me with graces every day.

Glory be to the Holy Trinity!  Amen.
