TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CAFOD Harvest Fast Day: Last weeks CAFOD collection amounted to £918.47.  Thank you all for your generosity.

NEXT SUNDAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – Pope Francis invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection for Missio, his official charity for overseas mission. Your support on World Mission Sunday will help brave missionaries in proclaiming the Gospel of peace in South Sudan and around the world. Please join in this special day that unites all Catholics all over the world in prayer, celebration and care for the mission of the Church. You will be able to Gift Aid all donations by using the envelopes provided by Missio. Thank you.

 

ENTRY TO CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS.  Fr. Kevin will be distributing Certificates of Catholic Practice on Thursday 19th October from 3.30pm-6pm

in the Presbytery to parents of children who are presently in Year 6 and want their child in Catholic Secondary school from Sept 2018.  Application forms are available at all Masses from the Priests and should be returned on Monday 16th October to the Presbytery. When the Priest has evidence that the parent’s statement is true, he will present them with a “Certificate of Catholic Practice”.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SIGNING IS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS ONLY.

 

CONFIRMATION 2017-2018: Application forms are now available in the church porch for enrolment into the Confirmation program 2017-2018. This program is open to youth in Year 10 and above who wish to make their confirmation here in St Patricks. Completed forms must be brought back to the Presbytery no later than Sunday 5th November   and will only be accepted with a copy of the candidate’s baptismal certificate attached.

 

NOVEMBER DEAD LIST- Envelopes are available in the Porch for the November dead list. Place in this envelope the names of your deceased relatives and all for whom you wish to pray. Please bring the envelopes as soon as possible to the Church or Presbytery.

 

HOLY ROSARYThe month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary therefore Mrs Folan will be leading the Rosary in the St Patrick’s School library throughout this special month. The start date is October 5th at 8:30 am and will continue until Friday October 27th. Please come through the Year 5 entrance to access the library. All are very welcome.

 

THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF CHURCH MUSIC CHORAL FESTIVAL will take place this year in Brentwood Cathedral on 21st October, and will celebrate the Centenary of Brentwood Diocese.     All singers are invited to take part.    The Festival will take form of a workshop starting at 10 a.m. to prepare the music which will be used in the Centenary Celebration Service at 4 p.m. in the afternoon.    The specially chosen music for the occasion is all contained in a book. MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE. Our Lady & St George will be running a  marriage preparation course led by  Vincenzo and Marina. The course will run over a two day period, the 26th - 27th October, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.  It will be held at Our Lady & St George's Hall.

RECOGNITION OF EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS AT ST PATRICK’S.  St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School has been recognised in the Schools for Success Awards for the exceptional progress its pupils make. This award recognised St Patrick’s achievements in 2015-2016 academic year. Our results improved even further last year, placing us in the top 5% of school in the country by both children’s progress and the levels of attainment by the end of KS2.  (Please see church noticeboard).

The church offers a service called Mass Link.  At 6pm Sunday Mass, via Skype, we call people who want to listen to the Mass and broadcast the Mass to them over their phones. This service is available for anyone who can't make it to Mass if you are ill or housebound.  If you would like this service, please give your number to the Parish Office and we will ring you every Sunday at 6pm to listen in!

CAFOD Harvest Fast Day: CAFOD second collection will be today at all Masses. This Harvest Fast Day, we are standing with the farmers of El Salvador as they work to sustain their families with good crops and harvests. With your help, CAFOD is giving them fruit trees, training, and strong seeds. We will be having a Second Collection to help this worthwhile cause and if you wish to help please pick up a Fast Day envelope and place it in the 2ndCollection today.

WE WILL BE CELEBRATING OUR PARISH FEAST DAY ON SATURDAY 14th OCTOBER with a social event in the Parish Hall. All are invited to the celebration. RSCM-EEL ANNUAL CHORAL FESTIVAL 2017. This year our Festival will be a very special occasion celebrating the Centenary of the Diocese of Brentwood. It will be held in the beautiful setting of Brentwood Cathedral on Saturday, 21st October, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with the Festival Thanksgiving Service at 4 p.m. The service will be conducted by Andrew Wright, Master of Music at Brentwood Cathedral.   We invite all singers to join us for a memorable and enjoyable day of singing finishing with our Thanksgiving Service. Individual singers are warmly welcomed, as are members of all choirs, robed or unrobed. The choirs of Chelmsford and Brentwood Cathedrals will be joining us for the Service. The music this year has been specially chosen and is included in a booklet which has been printed for us by the Royal School of Church Music. FAITH IN ACTION: Today Sunday 24th September, after the 11.30 Mass, the Faith in Action group is inviting parishioners to share in a food tasting programme called’ THE WORLD ON A PLATE’. It is hoped that the diverse cultures and backgrounds in our parish community will be represented. Please help to make this occasion a success by contributing a small traditional dish from your country of origin to share with us.

 

WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THE DEATH OF MARIE MESMIN RIP WHO DIED DURING THE WEEK. Marie’s funeral Mass will take place here on Wednesday 27th September at 10am. This will be the only Mass in this day. May she rest in peace.

HOLY ROSARY.  The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary therefore Mrs Folan will be leading the Rosary in the St Patrick’s School library throughout this special month. PLEASE HELP.  Walsingham House at Abbotswick Funding Appeal: Target £430,000. Each year, over 5,000 young people from our schools and parishes enjoy a retreat with the Walsingham House Team. In January 2018 this work is moving to Abbotswick, a beautiful house near Brentwood, set in 14 acres of grounds. In school holidays, Abbotswick will also continue to be used by parish groups seeking a time of retreat, resting with the Lord. However, Abbotswick is in need of a significant refurbishment, and we seek your help.  Please support it as generously as you can; in the words of Bishop Alan “This project builds a prayerful and inspiring future for the young people of the Diocese.” Thank you.

 

THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF CHURCH MUSIC CHORAL FESTIVAL will take place this year in Brentwood Cathedral on 21st October, and will celebrate the Centenary of Brentwood Diocese.     All singers are invited to take part.    The Festival will take form of a workshop starting at 10 a.m. to prepare the music which will be used in the Centenary Celebration Service at 4 p.m. in the afternoon.    The specially chosen music for the occasion is all contained in a book. RSCM-EEL ANNUAL CHORAL FESTIVAL 2017. This year our Festival will be a very special occasion celebrating the Centenary of the Diocese of Brentwood. It will be held in the beautiful setting of Brentwood Cathedral on Saturday, 21st October, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with the Festival Thanksgiving Service at 4 p.m. The service will be conducted by Andrew Wright, Master of Music at Brentwood Cathedral.   We invite all singers to join us for a memorable and enjoyable day of singing finishing with our Thanksgiving Service. Individual singers are warmly welcomed, as are members of all choirs, robed or unrobed. The choirs of Chelmsford and Brentwood Cathedrals will be joining us for the Service. The music this year has been specially chosen and is included in a booklet which has been printed for us by the Royal School of Church Music.
