TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

 

SECOND COLLECTION next Sunday 10th September for Education Sunday. On Education Sunday, Catholics are encouraged to pray for all those involved in Catholic education, including, teachers, school staff, parents, governors and volunteers, and all those who contribute in some way. The Catholic Education Service (CES) is the agency of the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales charged with safeguarding and promoting Catholic education. The CES regularly negotiates on behalf of schools and dioceses with the Department for Education and Ofsted, to ensure Catholic schools are well represented. The second collection on Education Sunday will be for the diocese’s education work,

 

† Please pray for the happy repose of the soul of Valerie Peralta RIP who died recently, aged 17. Valerie’s funeral Mass will take place here on Thursday 7th September at 10 am.  This will be the only Mass in this day.  May she rest in peace.

 

† WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THE DEATH OF NEIL WILLIAMS RIP. Neil’s funeral service will be held at the City of London Crematorium at 11:30 on Friday 8th September. May he rest in peace.

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS 2017/18. Coordinators, teachers and helpers who have expressed an interest in being involved in this year’s programme are invited to attend a meeting on Monday, Sept. 4th at 7.00pm in the presbytery. The meeting will give an overview of what is involved in the programme. If you haven’t already given your name but feel you may be able to contribute please feel free to come along as we all have untapped gifts we can offer!

 

FAITH IN ACTION: On Sunday 24th September, after the 11.30 Mass, the Faith in Action group is inviting parishioners to share in a food tasting programme called’ THE WORLD ON A PLATE’. It is hoped that the diverse cultures and backgrounds in our parish community will be represented. Please help to make this occasion a success by contributing a small traditional dish from your country of origin to share with us. If you and your family or friends would like to prepare something for this event, please contact the parish office 02085203647 before 1st September 2017.

RSCM-EEL ANNUAL CHORAL FESTIVAL 2017. This year our Festival will be a very special occasion celebrating the Centenary of the Diocese of Brentwood. It will be held in the beautiful setting of Brentwood Cathedral on Saturday, 21st October, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with the Festival Thanksgiving Service at 4 p.m. The service will be conducted by Andrew Wright, Master of Music at Brentwood Cathedral.   We invite all singers to join us for a memorable and enjoyable day of singing finishing with our Thanksgiving Service. Individual singers are warmly welcomed, as are members of all choirs, robed or unrobed. The choirs of Chelmsford and Brentwood Cathedrals will be joining us for the Service. The music this year has been specially chosen and is included in a booklet which has been printed for us by the Royal School of Church Music. Faith/Trust

In our own lives, any compassion we have, any empathy we have often comes from our own brokenness. There is no other way to get it.  And any worthwhile growing in our lives has always been in times of conflict. We can take a lesson from nature in this area.

We all may have seen cocoons hanging from trees and bushes in the springtime. The cocoon is protection for our wormy creature, in the process of maturing into a butterfly. The grace of the butterfly is really beautiful to behold, but full maturity does not come without a struggle. Biologists have discovered that the struggle to break through the cocoon of old life into new life is absolutely necessary for the butterfly’s survival. Without the struggle, the tiny wing muscles would not develop the strength to fly and the butterfly would die in the cocoon.

STUDY DAY AT CHRIST THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST GIDEA PARK

The next study day at Christ the Eternal High Priest, Gidea Park, will be led by Mgr David Manson, former Vicar General of the Diocese of Brentwood and expert in Liturgy. He will take as his topic ‘The Significance of Sunday’, and will explain the contents of Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Letter Dies Domini (The Day of the Lord). PETER’S PENCE SECOND COLLECTION TODAY at all Masses.  Each year, a special charitable collection is solicited from Catholics throughout the Church.  Contributions are intended for use by the Pope in his worldwide humanitarian efforts. Victims from natural disasters, wars, diseases and other catastrophic events receive assistance from Peter’s Pence. Economically strapped dioceses and churches, hospitals and Catholic education programs are also among recipients of these funds.

Evangelisation: The Waltham Forest Faith Fayre will take place in the Walthamstow Town Centre on Saturday 12 August 2017. It will be an event to share faith, friendship and fun with other faiths communities. It will also be an opportunity to showcase our Catholic Faith. All parishioners are welcome. The next important stage of the Stewards of the Gospel discernment process is upon us!  On Monday 7th August a document setting out in draft a vision and strategy to take our diocese forward will be published at http://www.dioceseofbrentwood.net/news/.  We will also be getting hard copies of the document to share and read so that we can pray about the contents and discuss them before responding to it.

 

Reflection: Lord, may I never forget the sacrifice that gives me life.  We are saved by faith, not works, but we live out our faith by loving others and caring for their needs. May we, keep our eyes open for those who might need our help as we walk together in this journey of life.
