THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH
To All Parishioners,
As we cross the threshold of the new year we wish you a happy 2018.
We wish you a year filled with peace: the peace proclaimed by the angels on that holy night; the peace of Christ, who out of love became a brother to every human being!
We wish you a year filled with serenity and happiness: May you always be certain of God's love for us.
This year will bring new changes in our parish. We ask Christ who comes with his saving Gospel to guide our uncertainties and faltering steps and lead us towards the future with true hope.
Finally we say a sincere thank you for your cards, prayers and gifts received over the Christmas period.
May God bless all of us together with our families and friends.
Fr Kevin & Fr Angelo
On behalf of the SMA Fathers, Frs Kevin and Angelo thank you for your generous Christmas donations to the SMA. The collection amounted to £2,645. May God bless your generous giving.

NIGHTSHELTER 2018. The rota is now up for those who want to volunteer to do the sleepover with the homeless. We need three volunteers every Friday & It is important that we have at least one male. We meet every Friday (from 5th January until the 30th March) at 8:00pm at the Baptist church. You are expected to socialise with our guests before we take them over to St Patrick’s hall. Please remember to bring a sleeping bag! For further information call Ann Shean 07875658086
DIOCESE OF BRENTWOOD. Do you support Catholic schools and the right of Catholics to send their children to them? Then we need you to make your voice heard. The Government is making a critical decision on whether to overturn the admissions cap which prevents Catholic schools from allowing all Catholic pupils attend. They have acknowledged that this policy discriminates against Catholics and promised to abandon it, now we need to tell them not to u-turn on their promise to Catholics. Visit http://catholicnews.org.uk/education-cap or research for “Catholic Education” in your search engine to write to the Government and urge them to drop their policy which bans new Catholic schools.
ENTHUSIASTIC GARDENERS REQUIRED to help develop the presbytery garden so that it can be used and enjoyed by parishioners to grow produce in the summer months. If you can give some time, please contact the Live Simply Group via the parish office.
DIVINE MERCY- every Wednesday at 4pm in the Church.
LEGION OF MARY meeting will be held in the church on Thursdays after Mass at 10:15 am. If anyone is interested they are welcome to attend.
RED MISSIO BOX. Please return all your red boxes to the presbytery. Thank you all for the continuing support for this good cause. ~ Dolly.
UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO MASS? The church offers a service called Mass Link. At 6pm Sunday Mass, via Skype, we call people who want to listen to the Mass and broadcast the Mass to them over their phones. This service is available for anyone who can't make it to Mass if you are ill or housebound. If you would like this service, please give your number to the Parish Office and we will ring you every Sunday at 6pm to listen in!
BRENTWOOD DIOCESE PUBLISHES FORMAL PROPOSALS FOR CHANGE.
The First Formal Proposal for the Renewal and Restructuring of Our Diocese has now been published and can be accessed on the Diocesan website or hard copies can be requested from the presbytery office. Parishioners are requested to read it, pray about it and then discuss it within the parish and with neighbours keeping in mind the need for further dialogue and discernment before final decisions are taken.
A discussion on the document will take place in our parish on Wednesday 17th January 2018 in the Parish Church at 7.00pm. As many as possible are requested to attend this meeting as the Renewal and Restructuring Programmes will bring changes to the Parish. Please attend and let your voice be heard.
RECIPE FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavour of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humour.
