The CAFOD collection will be today Sunday October 7th. CAFOD Harvest Fast Day: October 2012. It’s shocking to think that nearly a billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. For the first few years of his life, 9-year-old Gift from Zambia often had nothing to eat but pumpkin leaves, day after day. But then CAFOD gave Gift’s family the tools, seeds and training they needed to set up a vegetable garden – and today they are flourishing. To help many more families like Gift’s, please give what you can at Fast Day. Envelopes are available in the church. Thank you for your generosity.
A speaker from CAFOD will be present this weekend.

Today Oct 7, the Catholic Church celebrates the yearly feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Known for several centuries by the alternate title of “Our Lady of Victory,” the feast day takes place in honour of a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe.
SECONDARY SCHOOL SIGNING: Fr John will be signing secondary school application forms on Monday 15th & Tuesday 16th October from 3.30pm to 7pm in the Presbytery. Let’s recall what you are doing. As parents you are applying to a Catholic secondary school to accept your child into year 7. Where the school has more applicants than places available, the school gives priority to practicing Catholics. This is estimated on your weekend Mass attendance so on the application form you state how often you attend Church: weekly/fortnightly etc. The priest is asked to verify your statement. In this parish there is a well established practice of how to do this. The last thing the priest wants is an argument with a parent over their Christian practice.
PLEASE NOTE THAT FR JOHN WILL BE SIGNING SCHOOL APPLICATION FORM FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL ONLY. RECEPTIONS FORMS WILL BE SIGNED TOWARDS END OF THIS CALENDAR YEAR. NURSERY FORMS- NEW YEAR.
