Sunday 1st MAY 2016 Sixth Sunday of Easter
Parish Mission. We are happy to announce a parish mission over Pentecost weekend; beginning on Fri 13th May and ending on Monday 17th. This Mission is to mark the Church’s Year of Mercy and to help all of us to encounter the Mercy of God. The Programme:
Fri.13th 7:30 pm: Healing Mass with anointing of the sick.
The Preacher will speak at Sat morning Mass and all weekend Masses.
Monday 16th 7:30 pm Reconciliation service including Confession.
Confirmation Practice: Due to unforeseen circumstances the rehearsal in the Church has been postponed to Wednesday 11th May at 6.30pm. Please remember to bring your Sponsor along with you and all the outstanding paperwork that you have been asked for to the practice.
BAPTISM IN JUNE. Due to First Holy Communion Mass on 5th June, baptisms will be celebrated on Sunday, 12th June at 2.30pm.
Tomorrow Monday May 2nd is a public holiday so Mass begins at 10am. Next Sunday May 8thwe celebrate the feast of the Ascension. It is also World Communications day. We are asked to have a second collection for communications in the diocese and in the wider Church .
Faith in Action Group - Parish Live Simply Project .Next meeting will be on Monday 9th May at 7pm in the Presbytery to take this further forward. Anyone who would like to attend is very welcome to join us on May 9th. Although the Group are ‘steering’ the project on behalf of the parish, it is something that we hope the whole parish will take ownership of, and will want to support and contribute to. A more detailed outline has been placed on the parish noticeboard. Please do have a read.
Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes. 45 people have now booked for the Sept 26th trip to Lourdes. A few more rooms are available in the hotel for people sharing. They would prefer not to accept singles.
A Note to our Readers. I want to begin by thanking our many readers who overall do a really good job of communicating the words of scripture to the congregation. I would also like to ask that all readers be aware of some guidelines relating to your ministry. a. Before and after the readings; reverence the altar (i.e. bow to the altar). At weekends the bow after the readings should be done along with the Mass servers at the altar steps. b. At the end of each reading allow for a pause before acclaiming: TheWord of the Lord (NOT: This is the Word of the Lord). c. The Gospel Acclamation. The Alleluia, Alleluia at the beginning and end can and should be sung preferably by the lead singer, the words in between however should be said by the congregation with the reader. ~ Thanks: Fr John
