Divine Renovation – Bringing your parish from maintenance to mission has been described as the most effective model of Evangelisation. The members of Pastoral PARISH Council is studying the work of Fr James Mallon in preparation to introduce this model in our Parish. All parishioners are welcome to join us on this journey by reading the book and or watching the videos of Fr James on Youtube.com.

MARRIAGE IN CHURCH.  Couples thinking of getting married are reminded to register in good time (minimum of 6 months’ notice). Contact the parish office to make an appointment to see Fr. Kevin and he will help you from there.  Couples planning to marry in another parish or even outside the country should realise that the process properly begins here.

BAPTISM. Application forms for infant Baptism are available in the porch.  Please fill in and present to parish secretary during office hours.  It is unwise to organise a reception until the date of the baptism has been approved by Fr. Kevin. It is a Diocesan requirement that you are registered in this parish for at least six months.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.  Ever wanted to help the refugees in Calais but unsure how?  We run weekend convoys from Brentwood to volunteer with refugee charities there.  Never mind the reasons WHY migrants are in Calais – the fact is they’re there – without resources, hungry, struggling.  We feel strongly that part of our Christian mission is to support them.  Please think about this & volunteer.  Next Trips: 13-15th Sept, 22 - 24th Nov & 31 Jan – 2 Feb.  Sign up for a convoy or donate with compassion atwww.calaislight.com.

DON’T MISS THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF THE MIRACLE that has been approved and is leading to the Canonisation of Cardinal John Henry Newman in this week’s Subscribe at: catholicherald.co.uk/subscribe/ or telephone 01371 853645.

We are aware that some people have left the parish and while others have joined us.  To those newly arrived we say welcome and wish you a peaceful time here.  We hope and pray that your coming to St. Patricks will satisfy your need to have a meaningful relationship with God and help you to meet new friends. Do introduce yourself to Fr. Kevin and register with the Parish Secretary and make sure you are known in case you plan to have a child receive a sacrament or apply for a place in a Catholic school.

PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI: PRAYER FOR PEACE  Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

                                             ******************************************

DIFFERENT WAYS OF PRAYING DURING A HOLY HOUR.  1. Do nothing.  Just be still in his presence.  Relax, breathe, doze if you feel so inclined.  2. Pour out your feelings to Jesus.  Tell Him all your problems.  3. Open your bible.  Read one of the psalms or part of one of the four gospels of either Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  4. Pray the rosary to Our Lady.  5. Pray the Divine Mercy chaplet.  6. Try doing the Jesus Prayer which as follows; “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me a sinner.” Some recommend saying the first part of it, i.e. “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God” –as you are breathing in, and the second part, i.e. “have mercy on me sinner” – as you are breathing out.  It is not necessary to speak the words.  Just run the words through your mind while focussing 100% on the words themselves.  Keep bringing your attention back to the words of the Jesus Prayer whenever your attention wonders.  1.  Close your eyes and imagine the Blessed Sacrament is the sun.  It is shining on you and you are basking in its warmth.  Allow yourself to be loved by Him.  2. Always pray in the way you feel most comfortable with.  By Fr. Freddie Warner SMA.
